World Info; This is a world where everything seems familiar enough. It's the modern era around 2010-2011 on planet Earth, with nothing most people don't know about already or at least aware of.
Well, except fairies and magic. But those exist only in the imagination of man and in tales and myth passed through by word of mouth or in books. They are hardly real to humans and the Fairy Folk (or as they refer to themselves 'the Fae') like to keep it that way. They may tend to visit humans whether their intentions are good or not, but never have any immense involvement in human affairs. Although they're called fairies, it is simply an umbrella term for the several kinds that exist. All of the Fae live in a mysterious realm called the Solar Veil, ruled by the Fairy Queen Titania and High King Oberon, the beloved fairy monarchs that have ruled over their kind for thousands upon thousands of years. Although most fairies are sylphs (elemental spirits aligned with air and wind with human features, pointed ears, and insect-like wings to distinguish them), there are other creatures classified as Fairy Folk such as leprechauns, brownies, selkies, and hobgoblins. Sylphs are, however, the most common within the Solar Veil.
Fairies are much like humans as in they are never wholly good or wholly evil, but they share a common love of causing mischief whether it'd be good or bad. The Fae are expected to treat each other with courtesy. Fail at this and one may be subject to someone's revenge since The Fae very much believe in an 'eye for an eye' policy. In terms of social status, the bigger the wings, the more respected you are; there are some fairies that are not born with wings at all and are often looked down upon.
They love to entertain themselves by throwing extravagant parties during the summer and winter nights. Spring is the season where they plant their food and cleanse their Veil so that the magic that protects their home stays strong. During the autumn, they harvest their food and hold an Autumn Festival which other creatures outside the veil such as dwarves, elves, and talking animals (with whom they have friendly trading and cultural relations with) attend. Overall, the Fairy Folk function as a usually peaceful kingdom with their own trade and customs such as magic schooling, textiles, and agriculture. Human fashion has been adopted in terms of clothing over time although some fairies still prefer to dress in flowery robes or tunics.
Physical weaknesses for fairies vary although they can succumb to diseases and poison, but a common liability is iron which is mostly absent from their home. The presence of iron weakens them and being wounded with that material can cease their healing abilities. Still, their longevity and youth is notable; there are many fairies who are at least over a century old.
The Solar Veil is a realm that can simply be described as a magical forest hidden in an unknown location and protected from danger by many enchantments. It exhibits an almost endless number of enormous trees, vivid flowers, and other exotic flora and fauna. Some of these may or may not have magical properties. A normal person could only enter the Veil by accident or by invitation and neither happens very often, not since ancient times when magic and fairies freely went about in the human world and crossing between the two realms was common. The Solar Veil is connected to "The Tree of Life," an ancient and mystical tree whose roots help the Veil to exist in the first place. It is these very roots that encircle the whole of planet Earth. The roots, however, are subject to defilement and ruin by demons (such as regular goblins, demonic bugs, and many more abominations) from the Black Veil, a realm not unlike the Solar Veil, but without its beauty and much more sinister and full of death and dark magics. Citizens of the Solar Veil dare not venture to its darker counterpart for their magic in that realm is weaker to the ever present use of iron and steel. The demons wish to consume the life energy the Tree of Life has to offer and sometimes invade areas of the Solar Veil or the human world to achieve this. It is because of this situation that the Fae are separated into two 'courts'- The Seelie and Unseelie Court- to help deal with both humans and demons.
The Seelie Court consists of fairies who have strong magic abilities to cast illusions and enchantments to keep the Solar Veil hidden from the human eye and to keep watch over the portals that lead to the human world. They also help the kingdom operate daily so that life in the Solar Veil is good. The Unseelie Court are the fairies who act as the official army against the demons of the Black Veil. They are both physically and magically dangerous fairies, but for a good cause. Fairies of the Unseelie Court tend to travel to the human world so they can seek out the demons who use their own magic to hide among humans as they hunt for the roots from the Tree of Life. The Courts have been around for as long as Queen Titania and King Oberon have ruled and it is unlikely to change any time soon.
All of this is the life of the Fae and unknown to any human. It is very rare that a fairy makes contact with a human especially in the 21st century. But one never knows, for the pleasant stranger they can encounter may very well be a fairy, hidden by their illusions and enchantment.
Isadora Blancart is one such fairy who makes frequent visits to the human world and so far has never revealed her true form to any human and yet somehow she finds the human world more fascinating than her own life as a fairy.
Background; Isadora Blancart is a fairy born into the life of the Unseelie Court. Her mother, Raisa Blancart, a harsh sylph and veteran Unseelie warrior made sure Isadora knew the significance and sanctity of her purpose in life. She was trained from a young age to be a vicious fighter for exterminating monsters from the Black Veil and protecting the Tree of Life. Her commanding officer, Galen Klein, saw her as a promising warrior and she was well respected by the other members of the Unseelie Court.
Years passed and Isadora pretty much lived her life as a fairy like any other citizen of the Solar Veil. She participated in the usual pleasantries such as the seasonal parties and her magic schooling, alongside with her Unseelie Court duties. Isadora was a happy and pleasant girl during those years even though she had a strong streak of mischief that got her in trouble at times. Her fellow Unseelie fighters respected her and life in the Solar Veil continued, happy and blissful, almost impossibly so. Isadora took no notice of how old she grew or how the time passed in the Solar Veil. Most of her duties pertaining to demon fighting was within the Solar Veil and she had never set foot in the human world until she was almost over a century old.
Her first ever encounter with a human was an event in her life that changed and perhaps even warped her personality and outlook on her life. Somewhere around the late 1800s, Isadora was sent on a solo mission to track down a demon hiding out in the mortal world. She finished the job, but not without getting some major injuries which required her to remain in the human world and recover before returning home. Using her magic to disguise herself as a normal looking girl, Isadora wandered around in a human city specifically, in the industrial city of 1800s London. The pollution and seedier parts of the city, including the ever present iron caused Isadora to weaken considerably. She managed to make her way to the countryside to regain her strength.
One day, the sound of a piano led Isadora to the cottage of an elderly and eccentric old man who taught piano for a living. Having never seen a piano before, Isadora disguised herself as a normal human girl and approached the human hoping to learn more about the instrument. At first the elderly man was reluctant to teach Isadora, but eventually relented since he took comfort in her company and having a willing student. This was Isadora's first time in making close contact with a human.
Their relationship was uneasy at first, but as Isadora improved in playing the piano, the more she became fixated on the elderly human and he grudgingly cared for her in return. Practicing the piano became a daily routine and each day, the fairy was able to gather more observations about this piano teacher. The elderly piano teacher, as she gradually found out, was estranged from his family and self-loathing when it came to his skills as a pianist. He did not have many students and worst of all, his health was poor.
Without really knowing why, Isadora took pity on the piano teacher and used some of her fairy magic to improve and revitalize his condition. Isadora's treatment combined with her constant company, inadvertently helped the teacher to grow high in spirit and muster up the courage to fix his relationship with his family and teach the piano with more passion and attention. He thanked Isadora for being there to listen and most of all be a friend who made him happy.
All the while, Isadora felt uncertain about this development in the elderly man. It had never occurred to her that she could make anyone, much less a human, happy. Her time with this particular human made her blissful years in the Solar Veil empty and shallow in comparison. When she looks back on it, her reason for healing the piano teacher was selfish because she simply wanted to learn more piano. She never expected to develop a soft spot for him and for her to reconsider the superficial nature of her relationships with her fellow Fae.
Eventually, Isadora fully recovered and was about to prepare to return to the Solar Veil. She went to say farewell to the elderly piano teacher at his cottage, but was met with a terrible sight; the man's home was broken into and robbed by criminals. He was injured fatally from the struggle and although help arrived, he died. His death incited the most ugly rage Isadora had ever felt in all the years of her life. She tracked down the criminals and mercilessly beat them in a fight, leaving them to die (and they eventually did).
Isadora was caught by her fellow Unseelie warriors and brought in for a trial before the fairy monarchs on the account of murdering humans which was forbidden, a rule which is held very highly among the Fae. Isadora stood before the court without even denying her crime. What she does say in her defense was that her actions were blood for blood. Those humans killed the human she was acquainted with and she simply did what he could not do for himself. After all, fairies do believe in the eye for an eye policy and she did not see that situation as any different. As far as she was concerned, at least she hid her tracks and no one would have any idea as to what actually ended those humans' lives.
She was placed under house arrest for half a century after the trial. After her release, her fellow fairies, especially those from the Unseelie Court, viewed her with some hesitance and even fear, but tried to cover up their unease by letting life in the Solar Veil go on as usual. Blissful, happy, and bright.
And so incredibly dull to Isadora. What was more jarring to her fellow Fae however, was despite the loss of respect for her, Isadora didn't seem to care about what they thought and was noticeably more flippant in her attitude towards others from that point on.
After her house arrest, life did go on. Isadora was allowed to carry out her duties as an Unseelie warrior, but this time she sneaks out to the human world much more often, studying them and their cultures, sometimes mingling, and sometimes just plain messing with anyone she found remotely interesting. Whenever she could, she would find a piano and continue her lessons, teaching herself how to play the instrument. But she never does find another friend like the elderly piano teacher and she's not sure if she ever wants to again. Isadora is simply a fairy who studies closely, but cautious in her examinations. Her uncertainty is hidden from others by a confident, sweet, but distant smile as she continues to live out her life.
Personality;
At first glance, Isadora Blancart looks and acts fairly harmless. Her speech and word choices are polite and elegant and she rarely swears even when pushed towards having negative feelings. She exhibits a calm and almost air headed demeanor, tending to drift off into her own thoughts when others are not around. If one gets into a conversation, she can prove to be quite pleasant in her own right- until her mischievous and flippant side arises and she makes a jarring and morbid remark or teases the other person playfully, if not mercilessly.
Her favorite pastimes are
When one gets down to it, Isadora is someone who is impatient with the world around her and she's always searching for something profound to grab her interest. She doesn't seem to invest deeply into good friendships or relationships after the incident with her human piano teacher and she's distant from her fellow fairies in general. She is a fairy who was taught how to be a warrior and to take her pleasures where she could find them, not someone who had compassion and empathy for others; however, that is not to say that those qualities are completely absent from her character. She keeps most of her sensitive and deeper feelings to herself, hiding behind a smile that doesn't quite reach her eyes.
She likes hanging out in the human world a lot so she's picked up a thing or two about modern culture.
* Can be downright vicious in a fight and it shows on her more monstrous face behind her childlike one
* Closest relationship wise is probably her mother Raisa and commanding officer Galen Klein. Still distant.
* Downright morbid at times
* She'll go along with almost anything that interests her
* Still childish and can be caught off guard
* She likes to dance, sing songs, appreciates a party every now and then. That's how she was raised.
* Appreciates a good fight as well... It's how she vents her feelings at times.
* Fairly benign towards anyone who is friendly towards her, need to work at gaining her trust
* SHE WILL WANT REVENGE IF YOU INSULT/HURT HER OR ANYONE SHE LIKES IN ANY WAY
